The challenge, using all their engineering skills, was to build the tallest structure possible, using masking tape and spaghetti and of course a marshmallow! The competition was part of Gordon's STEM Week.
Preparations are well underway for tonight’s World Book Night, a fundraising event where books and money are donated to vulnerable members of society without access to books. Students have baked and decorated cakes for the event, which will be sold together with winning bookmarks from the World Book Day competition.
Scores of students queuing up to see the Head Teacher this morning to be congratulated on attaining three pages of stamps this term. Stamps are awarded for particularly good effort in a class and for service and participation in other aspects of school life. They will also receive a certificate in Assembly. Congratulations all.
Three months of preparation for the Ten Tors training in Dartmoor came to an end this morning. The hardy bunch of students have endured rain, snow and freezing temperatures – often before sunrise - three times a week throughout the term.
The enchanting voices of the Boys' Choir, recent winners in the Choir section at the Godalming Performing Arts Festival, rounded off Parade Sunday with a Choral Evensong in the Chapel.
A fantastic array of silverware was presented at the Parade on Sunday. Cups included those won at the Godalming Performing Arts Festival for individual performances as well as the Semper Fidelis choir; the Boys' Choir; Solo Strings category and the Jazz Ensemble. There were rosettes from national equestrian events and the Gordon's golf team received their European Schools Team Championships Golf Trophy. U16s rugby players scooped the Worth Schools Rugby 7s Trophy and Y10 netballers were crowned Surrey Champions for the fourth consecutive year.
The Easter holidays begin on Friday 29th March. Wishing all our students and their families a happy Easter.
Not only did they win their class at the Godalming Performing Arts Festival, scoring an outstanding 97 per cent, but the Gordon's Jazz Band - less than a year old - won the overall band category and returned to school with the Jericho Cup. Congratulations on a great performance.
The Boys' Choir, recent winners at the Godalming Performing Arts Festival, will be performing on Sunday (24th March) at 6pm in the school Chapel for a Choral Evensong. All welcome.
We wish our visitors from Khartoum International Community School a safe journey home and welcome seven students from Columbus State University, Georgia, enrolled on a course entitled 'A Comparison of Education Systems: USA and UK'. They have identified Gordon’s as ‘unique’ and have come to experience teacher-student learning here and observe best practice.
Congratulations to our actors; poets; singers; choirs and musicians for fantastic performances in the Godalming Performing Arts Festival. Over 60 students taking part in this annual event with three ensemble groups and 14 solo/duo entries. Semper Fidelis retained the Hydon Cup. Looking forward to the jazz tonight.
