Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE has been appointed the new Chairman of The Trustees of the Gordon Foundation. He took over on May 1^st from General Sir Peter Wall, who served as Chairman for seven years.

Commissioned into the Corps of the Royal Engineers in August 1982 until February this year, Lieutenant General Cripwell was Deputy Commander Allied Land Command, the standing headquarters for NATO land forces and was recently sworn in as Lieutenant-Governor of Guernsey, representative of the Crown in the Bailiwick.

His appointment to Chairman of the Trustees of The Gordon Foundation, the original charity established to run the original Gordon Boys’ Home, and now supporting Gordon’s School, continues the close relationship Gordon’s has enjoyed with the Royal Engineers since the Home’s, now School’s, inception as the national memorial to General Gordon, a former Royal Engineer.

Married, with two children, Lieutenant General Cripwell, a keen sportsman, said: “I am looking forward to helping the Gordon Foundation and the school achieve their strategic vision”.

After just one year of competing in ILCA 4 dinghies (formerly Lasers), Kaitlyn Wyatt, a student at Gordon’s School has been chosen to represent Great Britain in the ILCA 4 Youth World Championships in Portugal, this August! Kaitlyn has been sailing competitively since 2018 and is ranked in the top five female ILCA 4 sailors nationally.  She achieved her selection after a weekend in Weymouth in which she competed in the final of seven ILCA 4 qualification events. It was the largest ILCA 4 qualification event ever held in the UK and featured the largest female contingent. Kaitlyn finished as the leading female sailor with an invitation to represent GB at both the European and World Championships. Sadly her GCSE exams mean she is unable to compete in the Europeans, but the 15 year old will make it for the world championships! Congratulations Kaitlyn and best of luck!

Gordon’s hosted its third Model United Nations Conference, welcoming eight other schools from across the country for two days of debate and discussion. With five separate committees including the security council, many different issues were discussed including ‘The Question of Lethal Autonomous Weapons’, ‘ the Iranian Nuclear Programme’, and ‘children impacted by the US border crisis/question of Haiti refugees’. Gordon's delegates representing the USA team lifted the second highest prize, that of Highly Commended Delegation.

Great results for our rowers on Sunday at Dorney’s Olympic Lake in the Ball Cup. Cloudless skies coupled with vociferous support from other students spurred James, in a single, on to a brilliant row in the heats and a first place in the final! Emilia and Immie also made their final, fighting the other crews right up to the line for a fifth place out of 15 in their category. Congratulations all!

Congratulations to our Ten Tors teams for not only achieving the 35 mile cross country challenge but breaking a school record in the process! The Year 10 students made the event in 17 hours - the best time in 24 years! Two teams from Gordon's joined over two thousand students for the Army's 60th Ten Tors event over two days. Their participation was the culmination of months of early morning training to ensure they were at the peak of fitness. Misty conditions made their orienteering skills even more important as they set off carrying all they needed to complete their route and stay out overnight safely. Both teams reached checkpoint 7 on the Saturday evening meaning they had just three tors to conquer before the finish the next day. First over the finish line was Gordon’s A Team at 11.24am with the B Team hot on their heels at 11.36am.

Just hours to go until the Gordon's Model United Nations Conference 2022, which will see 70 students from eight schools engaged in healthy debate and discussion over the next two days. Best of luck to all those taking part this year.
