Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards were presented to Gordon's Students at Buckingham Palace by HRH The Earl of Wessex. The students are pictured here at the iconic landmark moments before the ceremony. General Sir Mark Mans, Chief of the Royal Engineers, visited members of the Gordon's School CCF. The School has always enjoyed close links with the Royal Engineers as General Gordon served with the Regiment. As well as watching the Air Force and Navy cadets on exercise, Sir Mark presented medals to the Ten Tors team of 12 students from Y10 who took part in the 55 kilometre challenge held last weekend. Coming second to HM The Queen's horse in the Part -bred Arab Class at the Royal Windsor Horse Show, Gigi Gough achieved the highest ride mark of the class. In the Championship she competed against four other winners ending up as reserve champion. She is pictured here, with our School Patron, HM The Queen in the background.
The battle for the Longmoor Cup has begun! The weeks of polishing shoes; cleaning uniforms and marching practice have culminated in the Drill Competition on 9th May. This year Lt Col Ian Phillips inspected the Blues while Corporals Martin Harwood and Vicky Davis judged the drill element. The winners of the girls' house was Augusta and boys' house was won by Gravesend. The results were revealed at the Parade on Sunday 13th May.
Stunning, thought-provoking photographs and art are currently being exhibited in the Gym. Well worth popping in on Thursday (10th May) between 6pm and 7.30pm to view it and meet the talented students who produced the work.
After hearing that Gordonian Sam Doble had been paralysed in a motorbike accident last year, boys from his old house Sandringham, set about raising money to help him buy specialist equipment and fund adaptions to his home. Sam, who continued to supervise the multi-gym in the evenings after he had left Gordon’s, nearly lost his life in the accident last February in which doctors gave him just a two per cent chance of walking again. Despite the low odds, Sam is determined he will walk again. Boys from his old house held numerous fundraising events for him and raising over £500 which they were delighted to be able to present to him when he visited them recently. They have also offered to give up their time to garden for him.
Despite the fierce competition at the Woking District Championships, Gordon’s triumphed with the girls coming home with the trophy and the boys being runners up. Eleven schools competed in the rain at the Woking athletics track for the KS4 District Championships and there were some outstanding individual and team performances. Special congratulations go to the following gold medal winners in their individual events: Kathryn Beckett (300m); Amy Dove (HJ), Corum Nott (LJ and 400m); Christian Rowe (TJ) and Ethan Pawadyira (Shot). The most notable performance was from Corum Nott who smashed the school record set in 2009 in the 400m with an incredible time of 51.66s.
