  • Supporting Sam

After hearing that Gordonian Sam Doble had been paralysed in a motorbike accident last year, boys from his old house Sandringham, set about raising money to help him buy specialist equipment and fund adaptions to his home. Sam, who continued to supervise the multi-gym in the evenings after he had left Gordon’s, nearly lost his life in the accident last February in which doctors gave him just a two per cent chance of walking again. Despite the low odds, Sam is determined he will walk again. Boys from his old house held numerous fundraising events for him and raising over £500 which they were delighted to be able to present to him when he visited them recently. They have also offered to give up their time to garden for him.

Another great day on the asphalt for the Gordon’s School karting team which culminated in Gordon’s having a representative in the national final of the BSKC for the third year running! It couldn’t have started any better with team captain Zak Fulk setting the standard by starting at the back of a 14 car grid, weaving and shimmering past the opposition to a 2nd place. Other members of the team – Samuel Hudson and Marcus Smith were not to be out done both achieving podium finishes after starting near the rear of the field. It was left to Zak to seal second place overall on the day with a win when the heavens opened and the track became more like an ice rink, his greater race experience allowing him to over and undertake while the other teams were left foundering in his wake. Onwards and upwards for the Team.

After raising nearly two thousand pounds for their House charity - Cardiac Arrest in the Young (CRY) – Khartoum has just learned that they have jointly won this year’s Surrey Young Superstars Award. Boys from the house chose the charity after the death of their peer Luke Towers who was aged just 16 when he suffered a cardiac arrest after playing football. Staff and Luke’s friends have worked relentlessly to raise the money for the charity in many ways including bake sales, raffles and quiz nights. David Hutchings ran his first marathon in aid of CRY. Members of Khartoum House will receive their award from the Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey Michel More-Molyneux at a ceremony in May.
