    Spare a thought this weekend for Buckingham’s Head of House Jamie Sinclair as he competes in the Farnham Pilgrim Marathon. The sporty science teacher is donning his marathon gear to take part in what is described as one of the prettiest (and challenging!) trail marathons in the UK. With a route that takes in the Surrey Hills, the event has 2,489 ft of elevation over the 26.2 miles.     Netball teams at Gordon’s learned a few tricks of the trade today when Surrey Storm’s Jo Trip joined them for a masterclass. Trip, who plays both goal keeper and goal defence, made her Surrey Storm debut at the O2 Arena for the British Fast5 All Stars.

    With a well-deserved reputation for producing delicious school meals, Gordon’s culinary wizards are also forging ahead with their aim of educating palates. Sugar has been cut by 70 per cent and school menus colour coded and feature nutritional values. Students and staff are now easily able to see exactly what they are putting in their mouths. Last winter Gordon's rugby players notched up the following successes: U16s runners up in the Surrey Cup; Girls U18s Christ's Hospital Plate Winners; Will Lewis, Harvey Hewson, Scott Ross selected for Harlequins U14 Academy; Dolu Aderinola and Jack Bodell selected for Surrey rugby.

    Pre-season training kicked off this afternoon at Gordon’s in Rugby, Hockey, Netball and Football. While the rugby players were put through their paces by Harlequins coaches Ed Bowden, Theo Rhodes and Adrian Silvester, the hockey teams were treated to a masterclass with Team GB’s Kathryn Lane. Kathryn, who plays defence in the women’s hockey squad, appeared at her first Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, winning a bronze medal. Last season the school’s 2nd XI finished second in the Super League and three students were selected to play for Surrey Hockey.

    Congratulations to Lottie Henden, Lauren Mallindine, Lucy Mocetuba, Theo Lee-Clarke, George Arnold and Millie Johnson who won a gold medal; four silver medals and a bronze medal respectively at the National School Games canoeing championships at Loughborough University on Friday.

    Once again Gordon’s can claim to be a truly global school with the news that it has been reaccredited with the International School Award. The award, which helps schools to enrich their curriculums and become part of a global network of international educators, recognises the international partners Gordon’s has with schools in Europe, Asia and Africa. In particular the assessor highlighted the connections with Sudan and the Khartoum International Community School.

    Preparations underway for the special event at Gordon’s School on Saturday which will see an open air screening of the film War Horse. Hosted by Armed Forces Charity SSAFA, fundraising evening is being held to mark the centenary of the First World War. Tickets are available through Eventbrite (please click here)with all proceeds going towards SSAFA’s current work helping today’s generation of servicemen and women, veterans and their families across Surrey.

    CCF Cadet Dan Farrow ready for his parachute jump at RAF Netheravon, Wiltshire. He was awarded the Gardiner Memorial Award in June, which gave him the chance to tandem parachute jump with the Royal Electrical and Mechnical Engineers. Daniel, who earned a Flying Scholarship with the RAF, was also awarded the Sword of Honour as the most successful Gordon’s CCF Senior Cadet.

    Jubilant scenes in the Rec at Gordon’s this morning as students found that despite the tougher new-style exams, over 90 per cent of them had achieved the gold standard of five or more GCSE grades including English and Maths.

    Best of luck to all our GCSE students.  For those wishing to collect their results from school tomorrow, they will be available for Y11s in the Rec from 10.00am and for Y10s from 11.00am. Results not collected will be posted home.
