Robotics Society is not just about robots, nor is it solely engineering. The society is an extension of Period 7, in which students have much more control and responsibility in making our robot. While we have a large amount of engineers, we also need people who are good at project management, art and design, coding, marketing and outreach. We design, build, code, create and connect during our sessions, typically with design work being the priority in the first few weeks, then assembly work takes over in the latter half of the year. While there is continuous work in coding, outreach and graphics (art) throughout the year, this does pick up in term two (end stage). Robotics Society offers a great opportunity for students who want to use the skills they have learnt in a practical way, especially as the society enters the First Tech Challenge every year in which the team is judged on the various aspects specified above.
