Patron's Parade

Honouring the school’s Patron, His Majesty King Charles III today at the annual Patron’s Parade. His Majesty accepted the patronage of the school in 2024, to continue an unbroken line of sovereign patrons since Queen Victoria in 1885.

Students marched on to the Parade Square led by Drum Major Ben Shorter and the Pipes and Drums, to The Bonnie Lass of Fyvie, known to be among the King’s favourite pipe tunes. The band also played Gordon’s Crown, the tune composed by students and Senior Pipe Major Iona Scotson for the King and presented to him when they played for His Majesty at Windsor Castle last year.

The Parade was inspected by the Chief Nursing Officer (Army), Brigadier Helen Winder KHN who declared it “an honour” and a “privilege” to witness the Parade and congratulated students together  with their supportive parents and teachers.

A special touch at the end of the Parade as the Pipes and Drums performed The Journey to Skye, which included drummers’ beating, the band forming into the shape of a thistle as they played.
