STEM

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths provides students with the opportunity to take part in designing and manufacturing different products. This activity nurtures future technical workers and industry leaders.

Year 10:

Design and manufacture a Formula One car and take part in a national competition against other schools. Our Year 10s have the opportunity to learn project management, product design and development such as CAD and physical modelling, marketing, graphic design and racing

Year 12-13:

Take part in the challenge to design and manufacture a satellite. The challenge involves design and computer programming before taking the project to get launched as we compete against other schools. This teaches students all about project management, project design and development including programming, 3D printing, electronics and even parachute design!

The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) provision at Gordon’s is a wide-ranging and diverse provision that embeds STEM activities and experiences across the curriculum and co-curricular provision at Gordon’s.

Trip and Visits

The STEM departments regularly run the following trips

· Residential to visit the Large Hardon Colider at CERN (Y13 Physics)

· Arete Astronomy Masterclasses (Y9/Y10)

· Winchester Science Centre and Planitarium (Y7)

· Bletchley Park (Y12)

· National Robotics Competitions (KS4/5)

· WCSA STEM Day (Y9)

Co-Curricular

The STEM provision at Gordon’s offers students opportunities to develop skills and knowledge across the full spectrum of STEM subjects. Within STEM we have offered many opportunities including the following.

Robotics Carousel
Robotics Tech Competition
Code Club
Girls Code Club
3D Printing Club
One Ocean/Eco
Science Club
Robotics Lego Competition
Tech Club

The school works closely with the Arete Partnership to run STEM events in partnership with other local schools. Students have taken part in astronomy masterclasses and have built and tested rockets with the national space centre.
