  • clutch of rosettes

    Just for a change, a rosette that isn’t part of the General Election campaign! Our equestrian team brought back a clutch of 12 rosettes from the NSEA National Plate Championships. The group competed in Arena Eventing, Jumping with Style, Dressage and Show Jumping Classes both as teams and individuals. Congratulations to all of them.

  • gordon's at the polls

    We welcomed Sharon Galliford from the Green Party today as the first of the Surrey Heath Parliamentary Candidates invited to talk to students over this coming election campaign. On Tuesday 26th November Brahma Mohanty from the Labour Party will be here, followed by Michael Gove of the Conservatives on Friday 29th November and Alasdair Pinkerton of the Liberal Democrats on Monday 2nd December. All the candidates will be speaking at 12.50pm in the Library, with the exception of Mr Gove who will be in The Rec. We have five representative students of each of the Parties and they will be vying for votes in the lead up to the General Election when all students and staff will be invited to vote in the Rec.     Introducing Childnet’s new Digital Champion Oyinkan. The school’s On-Line Safety Prefect so impressed the Childnet judges with her knowledge, maturity and social activism that they have asked her to join the dynamic Digital Champion team. Many congratulations!

  • Cherry delicious

    Creating a stunning display, using a humble teacake as a centrepiece, our Year 10 students set to work, using marshmallows; candy floss; biscuit crumbs and fruit. Just one of their fabulous pieces will be put forward for the Tunnock’s Teacake competition with the winners being announced next year. All were winners though as they were able to eat their efforts!

    Congratulations to our new Head Boy Jack and Head Girl Emily. The two were appointed after submitting a letter to the Head Teacher together with a CV and attending a formal interview. Their deputies are Euan and Olivia. The foursome will take up their duties from next term, beginning at the Guildford Cathedral Service. Wishing them the best of luck in their new roles.

  • Yes chef!

    No flash in the pan for Oliver but a life-long ambition to be a chef. Now the culinary wizard is on his way to achieving this and will represent Gordon’s in the local finals of the Future Chef’s Cook up a Storm in the Classroom. Donning his apron in the school kitchens, with Head Chef Paul Hopkins, Oliver practised his two course meal which will be presented to industry chefs at Merton College for a coveted place in the Regional Finals. Corn fed chicken with a herb crust and chicken jus, vegetables and elevated mashed potato followed by soufflé pancakes with a passion fruit coulis. Best of luck to him!

    Our team of top talkers are through to the District Competitions in the Rotary Club’s ‘Youth Speaks’ competition. The articulate threesome of Sixth Formers debated both sides for ‘This house would limit each person to one return flight per year’ at the local heats and were awarded their shield in Assembly today. Two of them also won prizes for their roles as opposer and chair. Congratulations to all of them.

    Eddie the Eagle Edwards landed at Gordon's for the BSA Public Speaking Festival. Mr Edwards, who represented Great Britain in the Winter Olympics in 1988, was Guest of Honour and gave a moving and humorous speech about his journey to Calgary. A true representation of all the school's character traits.

    Polished performances by Kensington and Buckingham Houses today for the KS5 final of the Inter-House Debating competition in which Kensington were debating for the abolition of trial by jury and Buckingham against. With Kensington referring to the O J Simpson Trial and Buckingham, the Magna Carta, the debate flowed across the years. The judges – the Head and his two deputies – are currently deliberating on the winners of the competition with other year groups to follow.

    Fresh from their tournament win at Lord Wandsworth College, our Hockey First Team have gone on to victory at KCS Wimbledon at their Invitational 11-a-side tournament. The sensational squad of 13 won every game without conceding a goal with Hannah finishing as top scorer. The girls also triumphed on Monday in a National Cup match against Sherborne Girls. Congratulations all.
