Pipes and Drums in Kent

The Pipes and Drums’ 140th Anniversary tour reached Kent today, General Gordon’s birthplace, the heart of the Royal Engineers and where he began his work helping the poor and needy. At Rochester Cathedral the mother church of the Royal Engineers they performed at the Turning of the Page Ceremony and next to the window and plaque dedicated to General Gordon and the casualties of the Egypt and Sudan Campaigns. At Brompton Barracks they took to the Parade Square and played for guests attending the Royal Engineers Association Standard Bearers’ Competition. They were also able to see the Gordon statue before heading to the Royal Engineers Museum for a tour, playing for visitors outside. In Gravesend, at the Gordon Promenade Recreation Grounds, they performed by the statue of General Gordon and, by popular demand, in the bandstand! A very special day for all the band members.
