Poetry Please!
Published 19/10/21For her poem 'Aesthetic', Zoe Legge was placed in the top 100 entrants, from across the world, for the Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award. Over 14,000 poems were submitted from children aged between 11 and 17 from 109 different countries. Selecting the top 100 were Clare Pollard and Yomi Sode. Zoe's poem will now be included in an online anthology. Congratulations Zoe!

Pitch Perfect
Published 18/10/21We welcomed over 100 talented rugby players from all over England to the school on Sunday. The prospective students were attending the Harlequins Academy Recruitment Day for a place on the Harlequins/Gordon’s DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) Programme, offering a pathway to a career in professional rugby along with an excellent education.

Hats Off to Year 7
Published 17/10/21Their first public Parade and there was only one way to celebrate - by the statue on the Front Field by throwing their Glengarry caps in the air! Each Year 7 contingent had earlier marched together in their Houses along the Parade Square during the Harvest Festival Parade, while their peers, friends and families applauded them.

From Eco Society to UN Summit
Published 14/10/21From her humble beginnings as a member of the school’s Eco Society, Rishitha Sali is now representing students from all over the UK at the UN’s COP26. Rishitha, an A Level student at Gordon’s, will travel to Glasgow for the global climate summit with two others from Surrey Environmental Action Schools as part of the UK Schools Sustainability Network. There she will be giving public demonstrations on hydrogen fuel cells and battery storage and raising awareness about climate action.
More than 190 world leaders are expected at the summit, which is working towards accelerating action to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.
“I joined the Eco Society as I thought it would be really nice to meet people and discuss topics I am passionate about. But I never thought that this would happen!” said Rishitha.

Golfing Success
Published 11/10/21Hailed as junior golf’s ‘major’ two of our students made the leaderboards in the Justin Rose Telegraph Junior Golf Championship with Alex Phelps finishing third and Millie Cottrell 8th. Their incredible performances at Walton Heath Golf Club saw Alex shoot two -4 rounds in a row to recover from six over par to finish 2 under and 3 shots off the Championship lead. Millie Cottrell had a great first round -4 and led the competition after day one. Six over and 2 over final rounds resulted in her finishing in a commendable 8th place in this outstanding field of young U18 golfers. Many congratulations to both girls, who look set to continue an outstanding period for golf at Gordon's.

Welcome Back Hannah!
Published 07/10/21Delighted to welcome back Paralympian Hannah Russell MBE to school today. The inspirational Hannah, who left Gordon's in 2012 now has six Paralympic medals - three of which are Gold! Today she brought in her most recent one from Tokyo where she retained her title from Rio in the Women's S12 100 metre backstroke. Congratulating her are her former PE teachers Paul King and Jamie Harrison.

DiSE Rugby Programme
Published 05/10/21Selected for Harlequins Under 18s and England U18s training squad while on the Harlequins/Gordon’s DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) rugby programme, student Tosin Teriba (pictured) says: “If I didn’t come here [Gordon’s] I wouldn’t be where I am today. I would 100 per cent recommend this school to anybody who is mad about rugby and wants a rugby and academic lifestyle”. Pipes and Drums are 80
Published 05/10/21This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Pipes and Drums and a host of events and activities will be held to help raise money for band equipment for the next 80 years! While the band was established at the same time as Gordon Boys' Home in 1885, it only took up its home in West End, Surrey when the Gordon Boys' Home in Dover was bombed. At that time there were just six boys making up the band! Today there’s a chance to snap up a piece of history with the first auction for the three and four tailed feather bonnets. Vive La France!
Published 04/10/21Our delegation, representing France, achieved highly commended in what was a great start to the Model United Nations (MUN) year with students leaving the ReiMun with an array of awards. Debates included Uyghur genocide; the Xenotransplantation; and conversion therapy. The students particularly enjoyed the crisis debate that asked them to consider what would happen if Iraq was invaded by China, who had the intention of establishing a stronger Palestine State in the Middle East. Harry and Bayan were awarded outstanding delegates while Hamish and Shayna achieved highly commended delegates.

Published 29/09/21Congratulations to James West, who was awarded Bronze in the U21s Men’s Sporter (10m Rifle) at the England Small-Bore Shooting Union (ESSU) Championships recently. Nobody was more surprised by the result than the Year 9 student, who only took up shooting three years ago as a co-curricular activity at Gordon’s! He said: “I was not expecting it! It was my first competition after Lockdown and I just thought I would get back into it and shoot as best I can!”

Bishop licenses school's 30th chaplain
Published 27/09/21The Bishop of Dorking, The Right Reverend Dr Jo Bailey Wells officially licensed the Reverend Graham Wright today as Gordon's 30th Chaplain. The Commissioning and Installation Service, held in the school's Victorian Chapel of St Edward the Confessor, was attended by Year 7 students and staff as well as members of Mr Wright's family.
