Getting their first taste of life at Gordon’s School! Year 6 Pupils from Holy Trinity C of E Primary School in West End visited Gordon’s today and made (and ate!) Chinese spring rolls as a prelude to their coming to the school full time in September. Gordon’s laid on a China Day to welcome the new arrivals, which also involved learning Mandarin; Chinese music; making Chinese dragons and a Lion Dance! We are looking forward to meeting them all again at other events in the Summer.
Oxbridge hopeful Hana Godfrey has been awarded the Peterhouse Kelvin Science Prize. The Y12 Student, currently studying four A-Levels – Maths; Biology; Chemistry and Physics – wrote her essay on ‘Why are some molecules so poisonous?’. Judges at the Cambridge college felt that her essay ‘…stood out for its clarity of argument, stylish prose, level of research and originality of thought’. Entrants for the award had to write their essay about a subject that had not previously or were not currently studying as part of their sixth form studies. Hana will be presented with £75 at a special event at the end of the month at Peterhouse College.

The Drum Major was George Whiteman; Pipe Major Zara Cracroft and Trumpeter is Andrew Milne.
Founder's Day Parade at the Royal Hospital Chelsea and ten of our Y7 Students are proudly waiting before HRH Prince Michael of Kent performs the annual Review. Dressed in their 'Blues' marching uniform, the group has been chosen for their marching skills. The parade remembers King Charles II who issued a Royal Warrant for the foundation of the hospital and commissioned Sir Christopher Wren to design it on the 66 acre site. Each year representatives from Gordon's School are invited to attend this special event.
Following in the footsteps of his great-great-great uncle General Gordon, Tom Gordon a Gordon Foundation Trustee meets a descendant of the Mahdi in Khartoum during Gordon's School inaugural visit. The trip by Gordon's School to the Sudan - believed to be the first by a European school - forged links with the Khartoum International Community School (KICS) and the Women's Education Partnership in Khartoum. It featured a boat trip along the Nile and to the Meroe Pyramids; tour of the National Republic Museum; camping in the desert and tea at the British Embassy. Letters from HM the Queen (Gordon’s School Patron) and the Lord Mayor of London (Vice President of the Gordon Foundation) were presented to KICS as well as a model of General Gordon on his camel. Tom Gordon planted a tree in the grounds of the Khartoum school to commemorate the visit.
Two awards have been made to Gordon’s School – the Gold Mark for the Sports and PE Department and a Silver in the Surrey Healthy Schools. Gordon’s is the only school in the county to have been awarded the Gold Mark for four consecutive years. The Gold Mark recognises commitment to the development of competition in a school and into the community. In the Surrey Healthy Schools Award, the Quality Assurance Group who judged the award, said it was clear that ‘…there is a wealth of provision to support the physical and emotional development of both pupils and staff..’.
