  • #National Careers Week 2023

    A fascinating insight into how a humanities degree not only benefits career prospects but paves the way for life-long learning, was delivered to students by Steve Tibble as part of National Careers Week 2023. Dr Tibble, who specialises in medieval history, now writes books on the crusades and has an honorary role at Royal Holloway University. He explained to students how his academic work had benefited his career in strategy and planning in the corporate and financial communications sectors. Before his presentation, he spent time with students, Deputy Head (Academic) Andrew Reeve and Head of History Chris Coles and signed copies of two of his books for the History Department.

  • Peace Prize

    Writing on the theme of ‘peace’, Gordon’s students were finalists in the local heats of the Rotary Young Writer competition. The group of Marco, Rory, Benjamin and Owen were presented with their certificates and vouchers at a special event hosted by The Rotary CLUB of Woking. Jasmine, intermediate local heat winner and Owen the senior winner, will go through to District level. The competition seeks to promote and encourage the work of young, talented people and the winning writers will be published in Rotary magazines. Congratulations all.

  • Snow stops play

    The two football games, Gordon's First XI v RGS Guildford and the U14s against Woking High School, scheduled for tonight at the EBB Stadium, home of Aldershot Town FC, have been postponed due to snow. Information on when the games will take place will be available as soon as possible.

  • Live Football Action

    Two thrilling football games scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday 8th March) at the home of The Shots as Gordon's First XI football team take on RGS Guildford at Aldershot Town FC's EBB Stadium (High Street, Aldershot GU11 1TW). This game will also be live-streamed by NextGen (click here to watch). All welcome to either support in person or by watching live (kick off 7.30pm)! Tickets £3 for over 18's and free for any under 18's.

    Also playing at the EBB stadium on Wednesday are our Under 14 team when they take on Woking High School (kick off 5.45pm).

  • Winning Throw

    First place for discus athlete Teddy Gannon, competing for the Red Roses in Sweden. Sixth Form student Teddy  was in a field of 11 athletes from Scandinavia and the UK at the Vaxjo Indoor Throwing competition, where he achieved a throw of 50.66 to win.

  • #National Careers Week

    As far as work experience goes, rower Emilia Hewetson hit the jackpot, spending three days at one of the world’s most prestigious and successful rowing clubs, Leander.

    Mimi was given the opportunity to shadow the Women’s Squad Chief Coach, Ross Hunter, and Assistant Women’s Coach, Richard Chambers, accompanying them during training sessions on and off the water and at athlete briefings.  

    She met GB rowers, world champions and Olympians, all of whom took the time to answer her questions and give her plenty of rowing/career advice.  

    Many of the coaches there were trained by Gordon’s Rowing Coach, Alan Inns, a three times Olympic cox and former GB national and Olympic coach.

    “It was such an incredible experience” enthused Mimi, “It was like a different world. Their training schedules are so intense. It has inspired me to want to get to that level.”

    “It was so good to see it from a coach’s perspective and also talk to the rowers” says Mimi, adding: “rowing is so demanding but what you get back from it is worth it in terms of the friendships you make and when you get to that high level, you can go anywhere in the world”.

    Now back to studying and training for the school rowing team, Mimi is determined to find a university that also offers rowing!

  • Oarsome Performances

    Personal bests achieved for almost all the rowing team, who put in some great performances at the National Indoor Rowing Championships. For the Year 8s it was their first ever race and for Years 9 and 10 their inaugural indoor race. Stand out rows from Amber, who came seventh out of 243 competitors and Charlie 11th out of 253 with the two James’s both in the top ten in their races. The Girls’ Junior Relay team came 12th out of 93 and the Boys’ Junior Relay 15th out of 89. Congratulations all!
