Please join us for a quiz night in support of the Summer Rugby Tour to South Africa. The event costs £5 per person and includes a meal and entry to the Quiz. A licensed bar will also be available. Teams will be made up of 6-8 people, please register through the Box Office as individuals and arrange your team outside of the booking process and email the team name and members to pking@gordons.school.
Choral Evensongs will be held on Sundays 10th February and 24th March in our beautiful Grade II Listed Victorian Chapel at Gordon’s from 6pm. These traditional candlelit services with the robed Boys’ Choir will conclude with the Bugle Call. All welcome.
Pounding the streets of Windlesham during their Period 7 activities this week were the Cross Country runners, who displayed perseverance, strength and great running ability! Students at Gordon’s have a choice of nearly 80 activities - from horse riding to fencing and Mandarin - to choose from as part of their co-curricular Period 7. Congratulations to the 1st XI Football team, through to the last 16 of the English Schools' FA Cup after a 3-1 away win to St Clement Danes School in Hertfordshire. Last year the team reached the semi-final of this national competition.
She skated her way to success at the Viola Championships in Cardiff, clinching a Bronze Medal with her team Fusions in Synchronised Skating. Now Gordon’s Heidi Smith has her sights set on the British Synchronised Skating Championships in Nottingham later this month. Heidi, who trains with Fusions at Bracknell Ice Rink started skating when she was eight years old and though she is one of their youngest members, has risen through the ranks to become Vice Captain of the team. We wish her and her team the best of luck.
Runners from Gordon’s joined over three million others from around the world on Saturday when they took part in Parkrun. The group of 16, together with their marathon-running teacher Jamie Sinclair, did the five kilometre Woking Parkrun before returning to school for their usual Saturday morning activities. The community run, which takes place across the globe, is now a regular event in the school’s calendar, although the location will vary as other nearby locations are used.

Congratulations to Oliver Henderson, who has passed his SCQF Level 4 in Bagpipe Performance and Theory. The Pipe Corporal is only the second Gordon’s student to have passed a bagpipe exam. Already a veteran performer at school parades, he took part in the Lest we Forget Concert in Birmingham in November as part of the National Youth Pipe Band of England and will play the Pipe Lament at Guildford Cathedral at the forthcoming Gordon Memorial Service.
News from the Department for Education that from 2020 all children will be taught live-saving skills before leaving school, has been welcomed at Gordon’s, particularly in the Medical Centre. For some years now nurses here have been teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) as part of Years 9 and 11s PSHE course. Students in Year 12 also undergo an accredited course ‘Emergency First Aid at Work’.

For his painting of the school Chapel at Gordon’s, student Jack Blamire has won a national competition. Jack’s watercolour of the Grade II Listed Victorian Chapel won the annual Christmas card competition organised by The Prince’s Teaching Institute. It is now being made into their official Christmas card. The card will be sent to HRH The Prince of Wales’ office as well as schools across the country that are members of the PTI, an organisation founded by The Prince of Wales for the professional development of teachers and school leaders.
