Carnegie Book Shadowing Award
For our students in Year 7 and 8, those taking part are known as 'shadowers' as they 'shadow' the judging process for the Yoto Carnegie Medals; they read, discuss and review the books on each shortlist, engage in reading related activity which they can share online, and vote for their favourites to win the Shadowers' Choice Awards.
2023 BBC Young Writers’ Award
The BBC Young Writers’ Award with Cambridge University invites all young people in the UK aged between 14-18 years to submit stories of up to 1000 words. A fantastic opportunity which will be open later in the Autumn term.
KS3 Egypt Poetry Prize
An internal competition run for Year 7-9, this opportunity allows students to create a poem which will be collated into an anthology. This takes place in the first half of the summer term 2024.
Woking District Rotary club
This year's theme is 'Rebuilding'. Students need to use their imaginations and writing skills to produce a handwritten or typed story in prose or poem. It can be fiction or non-fiction and is open to all year groups. The final deadline is 14th February 2024. Y9 Gothic Horror Writing
Year 9 students use their imagination and skills learnt by entering this gothic horror writing competition. This competition opens at the start of the Spring term. Deadline is 9th February 2024.
Bookmark Design
This competition is open to Year 7 and 8 students during their second library lesson of the year. The winning three of this competition are printed and will be available in the library for the rest of the academic year.
Foyle Poetry Prize
The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award is one of the biggest and most established prizes for young people aged 11 – 17 in the world. Closed for 2023, this wonderful competition will re-open May 2024. More information can be found: https://foyleyoungpoets.org/
