MAD Day (Make a Difference)

‘Making a Difference’ for our school and local community

Monday 11 July saw Gordon’s launch their first MAD day, ‘Making a Difference’ for our school and local community. Y7 & Y8 weren’t quite sure exactly what the day would bring, but they approached it with an open mind and enthusiasm. On site, groups repaired and cleared the area around our bike trails, provided our bird life with some new nesting boxes which have been located around the school site, and ensured that about 50 people left with sparklingly clean cars - inside and out!

Within the community, activities included repainting the white posts surrounding the War Memorial, litter picking on the local heath and rhododendron bashing at Finchampstead NT. Gordon’s students also spent the day with some of the youngest and oldest in our community; completing arts and sports activities at Tringham Pre-School and visiting two Care Homes for the elderly, namely Rowan Lodge and Lakeview. Here students participated in activities ranging from board games, to hair and make-up, to tea and cakes whilst listening to music from a past era and having a good chat!

As this was such a success Gordon’s will be repeating MAD Day in 2017. More details will follow in the new academic year, but if you think you might have appropriate activities for this age group please contact us on cocurricular@gordons.surrey.sch.uk
