She gets inspiration from old Nordic legends such as The Ghost Drum. This in fact was the book that won her the Carnegie award in 1987. To start off with, Susan Price read us the first chapter of the book “The Ghost Drum,” it was an interesting and very good read. The novel is in the format of a fairy tale and is about Nordic witches and a girl trying to find out what her destiny is, with deaths, magic and witchcraft this book would be suitable for teenagers looking for an adventure inside of a book. She started out her career when she was just 16, getting her first book published, and it was called “The Devil’s Piper.”
Next she talked to us about what inspired her to write “The Ghost Drum,” which came from the Nordic lands when she visited a Reindeer farm and received a drum covered in art.
Her brother did the illustrations for some of her books such as “The Ghost Drum.”
Her other most influential book “The Sterkarm Handshake” is now selling for around about £50 on Amazon for first editions.
We particularly enjoyed her reading to us as the book was very good. We learned that anyone can be a good writer if they put effort in and want to succeed.
