The two train eight times a week before and after school and during the weekends and were rewarded with their first win in the Women’s J16 double scull. Promising to be the best ever, Summer Arts returns to the Front Field this afternoon, featuring music, dance and art. Gates open to all in the community from 4.30pm.
Congratulations to U13s cricketer Tom Norman, who has been awarded a Bedser Scholarship. For the all-rounder opening bowler and top order batsman, the award is a fantastic end to a very successful season, in which his teams at Gordon’s have won every game played. The Bedser Scholarship identifies six children aged between 8 and 16 years old from Woking schools who have the potential to become performance cricketers.
Congratulations to the school's Code Club team, who came first in the Apps for Good showcase with their Food.it, encouraging users to change their diets for the better, reduce food waste and improve the future of the planet. The Gordon’s team presented to a panel of industry experts from Spotify and have been awarded ‘Judge’s Favourite’ in the Global Innovators category. Announcing the award, James Ferguson from Spotify said their app “…really stood out”. He continued: “Both the pitch itself was superb, the presentation, idea, research and understanding and ability to answer any question posed to them was truly impressive.”
Presented with the Tes Boarding School of the Year Award tonight, which recognises innovation, imagination and efforts to develop children in ways that go beyond academic achievement and the league tables as well as maintained continued excellence. Gordon’s was one of eight boarding schools across the country to have been nominated.
Congratulations to Rose Roberts, Drum Major of the Pipes and Drums, who was recently awarded with a Girdlers' Medallion for what she has achieved and overcome. Rose, who leads the Pipes and Drums, was nominated by Gordon's staff as a student who personifies the five Gordon's characters strengths of courage, integrity, diligence, enthusiasm and resilience as she fulfils her role in the Pipes and Drums and carries out her school work while suffering from Stargardt's Disease, which affects her eyesight. Rose was presented with the Girdlers' Medallion at an awards dinner at Girdlers' Hall recently by the Master Girdler Major General Sir Sebastian Roberts KCVO OBE.
Hockey midfielder Cara Falconer has been selected to represent Scotland against England at the end of this month. Cara, who started playing for Surrey two seasons ago and was then selected for the England Hockey’s Performance Centre last season, now plays for the Scottish National Emerging Squad. She will be receiving her first cap for Scotland in the series against England from 24th to 26th June. Wishing her the very best of luck!
Demonstrating their all-round knowledge of Biology, these are just five of the students that competed in the UKBC Biology Challenge alongside 41,000 students from 550 schools! Adam Mills was awarded Gold, putting him in the top five per cent of entrants to the competition that tests their knowledge of not just the set curriculum but what they may have read in books and magazines, by watching natural history programmes and scouring news items for those with a biological slant. Eight students were awarded Silver, putting them in the top 15 per cent of participants and a further 30 achieved Bronze with 16 Highly Commended and 15 Commended. Congratulations to all!
Celebrating our Patron, HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee today with the Patron’s Parade. The Parade Square proudly displaying Union Jacks as the Gordon's Pipes Drums marched on playing Diu Regnare ( ‘Long Reigning'), composed by Stuart Liddell for the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee. Leading the Parade was Sergeant Major Isabelle Fleming. The Drum Major was Rose Roberts and Pipe Major Matt Carter. Gordon’s Parent and Trustee of the Gordon Foundation, Major General Angus Fay inspected the Parade. During the presentations to award winners, Major General Fay presented the Sword of Honour and Gardiner Memorial Award to Abigail Hunter-Blanco as the best senior cadet in Gordon’s CCF this year. The award commemorates the life of Daryl Gardiner a Gordonian who served in the British Army and was killed on active duty in Afghanistan. As part of the award, Abigail will take part in a tandem parachute jump with the Royal Electrical and Mechnical Engineers!
After the Parade, two of the youngest students in the school, Sophie Wallace and Annabelle Hayakawa - both born on August 31st - planted a Liquidambar tree as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative. The two also buried a time capsule containing a science project showing how science has developed throughout HM The Queen’s reign.

The Pipes and Drums added to a spectacular display of military bands at Aldershot Garrison last night at a Beating Retreat. The school band was also honoured to join for forces with the 10 Queen's Own Gurkha Logic Regiment Pipes and Drums in playing at the prestigious occasion.
Enjoying the spectacle of the Founder’s Day Parade at the iconic Royal Hospital Chelsea, ten of our Year 8 students. Dressed for this auspicious occasion in their Blues, the group will also be be meeting Chelsea Pensioners. The annual Founder’s Day, also known as Oak Apple Day, is held on a date close to 29th May, the birthday of Charles II and the date of his restoration as King in 1660.
