  • ROWERS CUTTING THE CAKE

    Published 31/08/21

For once their ‘cutting the cake’ was just that! Gordon’s Boat Club has enjoyed a phenomenal summer of training and wins. But the icing on the cake was the surprise tea party parents and students staged for their coach, Alan Inn’s birthday! The three times Olympian cox, who has offered so much time to the students throughout the summer holidays, was delighted.

The Boat Club’s dedication and perseverance with their training has paid off, resulting in the first ever wins in open regattas – two at Molesey (Lottie with the WJ18 single sculls and Frankie and Sophie the WJ16 double sculls). Lottie won again at Staines Regatta and James narrowly missed out on his first win due to some sleepy geese!

Training has continued on land at Surrey Sports Park under the supervision of experts in strength and condition and on the water with Mr Inns in single and double sculls. Looking back on the 20/21 season, Mr Inns pointed out that two new boats had been added to the growing fleet of first class racing boats and he paid tribute to the parents: “None of these [wins] would have been possible without the help and involvement of all the parents both on the water with me and in the organisation, admin and logistics involved with training going on simultaneously at different venues”.

The season ended with 24 students and their parents enjoying the Stewards’ Enclosure at the Henley Royal Regatta.

  • PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST FOOTBALL

    Published 11/08/21

Professional football is coming home to Gordon’s! The Vanarama National League’s Aldershot Town FC and Gordon’s School announced their partnership today. Aldershot First XI will train here four or five times a week through the season while our students will be coached by their elite team. The two organisations have shared values – Aldershot Town FC is a family club with connections to the Army and Aldershot Garrison. Gordon’s has a proud history of links to the military with over half its boarders from service families. The two institutions also share the ethos of developing players holistically and not just their skills on the football pitch. Chairman of Aldershot Town FC Shahid Azeem said:  "The training facilities are first class and the club has been made so welcome by all personnel who have gone the extra mile to accommodate us. We look forward to a very long, fruitful relationship between the two parties and to playing our part in helping to develop the star of the future at the school." Director of Sport at Gordon's, Jamie Harrison said: "This provides an exciting period for football here that will not only identify talented students in the game but train and develop them".

  • 'Outstanding' A Level Results

    Published 10/08/21

A Level students from Gordon’s have recorded an outstanding set of results, in which all passed three or more A Levels with over 58% achieving A*-A grades, well over the national average. BTEC students are also celebrating after securing an average grade of distinction.

In this second year of the COVID pandemic, students were awarded their grades by teachers, based on a series of supervised examinations as well as consideration of their performance over the past two years of study. With over 80.3% achieving A*-B and eight set to read medicine, 87% have achieved their preferred university, with many now off to the world’s leading universities. This will ensure Gordon’s place for another year as one of the top performing non-selective state schools in the country.

Pictured is Charles, who learned that his A* A* A results in Biology, Chemistry and Maths have earned him a place at UCL reading medicine. He said he was “thrilled” with his results, with his mother Roseanne added: “The school has been terrific. I have been absolutely delighted with Gordon’s!”
