Three Year 12 students selected to play for Harlequins Academy this weekend in their game against London Irish. A fantastic achievement for these rising rugby stars and we wish them and the rest of the team the best of luck.
The chance to play for her country has moved a step closer as netballer Pippa Dixon learned she had been selected for England Netball’s Roses Academy. Sixth Former Pippa, who plays goal attack and goal shooter and is First Team Captain, has been a member of Saracens Mavericks for the past few years and joined the Roses’ Long Squad in December. Since attending a camp with the Academy, she learned she had been selected for the Roses Academy Squad. Taught at Gordon’s by Surrey Storm’s Nicole Humphrys and Leah Middleton, who play in the Vitality Netball Superleague, Pippa had plenty of preparation for her trials including skill sessions, strength and conditioning, technique and tactical work. Miss Humphrys said of her: “Pippa’s work ethic is second to none. I’ve seen first-hand how hard she works in her S&C and skill sessions. I’m just elated for Pippa as she thoroughly deserves this opportunity.”
The return of competitive fixtures and what a win for our netballers playing for the Duchess of Gloucester Cup against the Royal Alexandra and Albert School! Showing grit and determination, the First Team put on an impressive display to win 57-0.
Dynamic, well-researched, funny, highly-engaging and all about....jelly beans! Adam Cohen (pictured centre with other finalists) was the speaker behind the winning entry in the Year 7 Speak Out competition. All Year 7s took part, delivering speeches to their tutor groups, with the best two from each group going through to the finals to be judged by the Head Teacher Mr Moss and Miss Fearn from the English Department. All eight finalists impressed the judges with their oracy skills, performing convincing, confident and eloquent speeches.
Already finalists in the Goldsmiths' Community Engagement Awards, Gordon's has now also been chosen as one of the finalists in the Best Community Work through the Boarding Schools' Association (BSA) initiative award category. These national awards recognise the efforts made by Gordon's staff, students and parents in helping others in the community. While the Goldsmiths' Award Final will be held in November, the BSA will make their announcement on a winner next month at their Annual Conference for Heads.

Drum Major Rose Roberts lowering the Union flag on Saturday evening in tribute to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh whose funeral had taken place earlier in Windsor. Pipe Major Owen Carter played a lament to the Duke of Edinburgh, who last visited to the school with our Patron HM the Queen in 1985.
In a tribute to HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, the Last Post will be sounded at Gordon’s School on Saturday, 17th April as the Union flag is lowered. This will be followed by Pipe Major Owen Carter playing a lament outside the school Chapel. Please join us on Facebook from 5.55pm for the livestream.
Harlequins hooker Joe Gray putting players through their paces with a throwing session in preparation for the entry of our DiSE (Diploma in Sporting Excellence) students into the RFU ACE League in September. The League is the pinnacle of U18s schoolboy rugby and Joe Gray is one of a number of talented professional players to have visited the school, since our partnership began with Harlequins Rugby Club to provide a pathway for promising rugby players and support students on all aspects of their rugby. Flags across the school at half mast as we join in this period of national mourning, following the death of HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. On Saturday the school will stage its own tribute to this remarkable man, which will be live-streamed via the Gordon's Official Facebook page (@GordonsSch). Details to follow.
