  • Sweet Story Success

    Portraying the hard life of a confectioner in Victorian times, has earned James Taplin third place in the national BLT19 (19th century Business, Labour, Trade and Temperance) competition. The teenager depicted his life as a 24 year old, who had inherited his father’s London shop and becomes famous after appearing on the front cover of the magazine ‘Baker and Confectioner’. His essay was submitted to the BLT Project run by Professor Andrew King at the University of Greenwich to understand the history of ‘work’ and the values associated with it.   • SENIOR STUDENT LEADERSHIP APPOINTED

    Congratulations to our newly-appointed Senior Student Leadership Team (left to right) Deputy Head Boy Alfie Cornwall; Head Boy Callum Keigher; Head Girl Evie Evans and Deputy Head Girl Connie Carr. The four, who will begin their duties in January, were appointed after submitting a CV and letter of application as well as attending an interview with the Gordon's Head, Deputy Head and Chair of Governors. Among their duties will be attending school events, co-chairing meetings, providing assistance and co-ordinating Senior Prefect Teams while fulfilling the school's five character values of courtesy, integrity, diligence, enthusiasm and resilience.   • National Finalists

    Published 23/11/21

    The hockey team set themselves a running challenge, raising over £1,200 for the NHS during the pandemic. Today this and other examples of how Gordon's gives back, will be presented to judges at the magnificent Goldsmiths' Hall in London as part of the national finals of the Goldsmiths' Company Awards for Community Engagement. Best of luck to all those taking part in the presentations.

    Congratulations to the school's Equestrian Team on some great results in the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) National Plate championships at Keysoe. Three riders, placed second as a team and recording individual placings of first, third and sixth!

  • Inter-House debating

    Published 15/11/21

    For their compelling arguments on patriarchy no longer being dominant in modern society, Victoria House claimed the top spot in Inter-House Debating, with China and Buckingham in second and third place. Next week sees the turn of Years 9-10 who will debate whether 'this house believes climate change is a technological challenge that can be overcome'. Congratulations Victoria and best of luck to those representing their Houses in the next round of debates.

  • Remembrance service and Parade

    Members of the community joined students, parents and staff from Gordon’s for the Parade and Service of Remembrance on Sunday around the Parade Square, conducted by the School Chaplain the Reverend Graham Wright. Dressed in their Blues uniform and accompanied by the Pipes and Drums, the student body marched and remembered the sacrifices of so many, including the 155 former students killed in action during the First World War; 31 in the Second World War and Gordonian Darryl Gardiner and affiliated staff member Steve Curley, both killed in Afghanistan.

    Poppy wreaths were laid by Major General John Russell Jones OBE, a Gordon’s Trustee on behalf of the Gordon Foundation Trustees; Former Head Boy and Gordonian, Second Lieutenant David Hutchings for the Gordonians and School Sergeant Major Louis Phipps for staff, students and parents of the school.

    Congratulations to the Hockey First VII Team, who retained their title of Champions in the Lord Wandsworth College Super 7s Hockey Tournament yesterday, scoring 30 of the total 94 goals.

  • we shall remember

    The two minute silence will be observed across the school site at 11am this morning. On Sunday the Remembrance Parade and Service will take place at Gordon's from 10.45am, to which all are invited.

    The Gordon’s Boys’ Choir has recorded a special version of the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae, which was inspired by the WW1 Battle of Ypres. The poem is said to have led to the adoption of the poppy as a symbol of respect for the war dead a century ago.

  • Novel fundraising

    Reading for pleasure and a good cause! Our Year 7 students have their heads buried in their favourite books for the next two weeks in a readathon to raise money for Read for Good, a charity which sends books and storytellers in to hospitals to brighten up the days of sick children. Each of them have set themselves targets of either the number of books or chapters or pages. They also have the opportunity to read to Sixth Form volunteers.

  • 'Dark Destroyer' Quizzes Sixth Formers

    TV's Shaun Wallace turned the tables last night, becoming quiz master for the Sixth Form annual quiz. The barrister and 2014 Mastermind winner, one of six chasers on The Chase and affectionately known as the Dark Destroyer ensured the students were put through their paces in the battle of the brains.
