Cakes, cakes and more cakes! Staff, students and parents have been busy baking for Macmillan Cancer as the school takes part in the world’s biggest coffee morning. This afternoon parents are invited to enjoy cakes (and liquid refreshments) before exeat pick up in the Dining Hall. Please visit from 2.00pm to 3.30pm and help raise money for this worthwhile cause.
Our new Year 7 Residential Boarders in Woolwich House are now truly part of the fabric of Gordon's as they are kitted out with their Blues uniforms. Pastels on Parade as the girls’ Houses take to the Back Field for today’s Inter-House Cross Country run. Every year group is taking part in this hotly contested race with Year 7 students leading the races. Last year's winners Windsor are hoping to retain their crown again.
The Luke Towers’ Memorial Match, postponed from last week, will be taking place on Saturday on the Front Field against Wellington College. All welcome. Kick off 2.00pm.
The Inter-House competitions started today with Year 9 in the Cross Country event. Hoping to keep their cross country crown are Khartoum. The girls will complete their run on the Back Field next week.
Parachute training; flying in a C17 transport aircraft; training in the most up to date airfield defence equipment; technical instruction on the new Atlas aircraft and simulator training were just a few of the activities undertaken by our CCF Cadets during their summer camp to RAF Brize Norton. The group experienced life in the RAF first hand at the Oxfordshire base – even learning how to iron their uniforms!
Judged outstanding in all categories of a recent OFSTED boarding inspection, inspectors found that 'Students '…exceed their predicted outcomes and consistently reach, and further, their potential'. As well as noting the 'Excellent relationships with staff...', the inspectors found that 'Students demonstrate a maturity and responsibility above their age'. We welcome back all our students and staff for the start of term and the new academic year today. Those beginning their Gordon's journey as Residential and Day Boarders include Sixth Formers and 116 new students in Year 7 from 42 primary schools across the UK and overseas as well as 19 in other year groups. Pre-season training kicked off for students this morning in rugby, football, hockey and netball. Netballers welcomed Surrey Storm’s Nicole Humphrys as their coach and new Head of Netball. Ms Humphrys, who plays as a defender or in the mid-court for Surrey Storm Netball said: “I love teaching and love netball so this is my dream job!”.
CCF Cadets started the new school year by parachuting 3,500 feet! The group spent the weekend training with the Army Parachute Association at Netheravon in Wiltshire in preparation for their static line jump. Please click here to see them in action.
