    The girls' teams - both students and staff - dominated the staff v students' netball matches this afternoon. The sporting spectacle on the Parade Square, saw the student girls top the leader board followed by female staff; male staff and male students.

  • helicopter visit

    RAF Cadets were delighted to welcome a very special (and noisy!) visitor in the form of a Puma helicopter from RAF Benson. After landing on the Front Field, the pilot Genevieve and crew led by Squadron Leader Douglas Fowler answered questions and showed cadets around the magnificent aircraft. The visit was part of a routine training sortie by the RAF.

P Dixon: Year 10 Discus 25.98m (set in 2016); L Hewson: Year 8 High Jump 1.57m (set in 2013); Augusta House: 4 x 200m Relay Year 7/8 Girls 2.05.70 (set in 2011); F Bruzas: Year 7/8 Hugh Jump 1.48m (set in 2016) and China House: 4x200m Relay Year 9 /10 Girls 1.57.82 (set in 2014).     Putting heart and soul into every heat, the ten Houses took on each other this afternoon in the annual Tug of War. With gutsy performances from all, the closely-fought competitions saw China keep their trophy for another year along with Sandringham and equal first in the boys’ tug of war, Balmoral.     We are delighted that Major General Angus Fay CB has joined the Gordon Foundation Board of Trustees, the charity arm of the school. Major General Fay, a Gordon’s parent, serves at the Ministry of Defence Head Office as the Assistant Chief of the Defence Staff (Logistic Operations); is Colonel of The Queen’s Own Gurkha Logistic Regiment and a Trustee of the Gurkha Welfare Trust.

    Year 12 Business Studies students had four minutes in which to quiz each one of our selection of ten professionals (including the Mayor of Surrey Heath!). Their expertise range from catering to professional speaking and the motor trade. All provided a wealth of knowledge and information to the students. Many of them are parents and familiar faces at the Gordon’s Business Breakfasts, held monthly at the school.

    Holocaust survivor Ernest Simon from the Holocaust Educational Trust shared his testimony to a packed audience in the Rec last night. Mr Simon, who lived in Vienna prior to the Second World War, came to the UK in 1939 aged 8 years old with the Kindertransport to flee the Nazis. He is one of a number of survivors attached to the Trust, which aims to educate young people about the Holocaust and the important lessons to be learned from today.

    Sixth Formers learned about recognising anxiety and dealing with it today as Oliver Nutt spoke on mental health and his struggle with anxiety. His message to the students was that there is help out there, they just need to ask for it. Now working as an engineer, Ollie visits schools on a voluntary basis to raise mental health awareness.
