  • Clash of the Titans

    Unbeaten in the ESFA (English Schools' Football Association) Cup, Gordon's First XI Team will now take on Millfield School in the Semi-Final of the competition. The game, against the current holders of the ESFA cup, will be held at home on the Front Field on Wednesday 28th February at 2pm. Some 400 schools across the country have taken part in the competition. The final, which will be televised, will be held at Doncaster Rovers FC at the Keepmoat Stadium.

  • Pipes and drums honour

    Student members of the Pipes and Drums Band at have been chosen to perform in the ‘Lest We Forget’ Concert, which will honour and remember those who lived, fought and died in the First World War. They will join some 2,000 other young singers and musicians from across England and Wales at the national concert at the NEC, Birmingham in November to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War.  The event, part of the government’s four year centenary programme, will include music and songs including: ‘Nimrod’ from Elgar’s Enigma Variations; ‘Silent Night’, the Christmas carol said to have been sung by British and German soldiers during the December truce and songs popular among soldiers of the time such as ‘Pack Up Your Troubles in Your Old Kit-Bag’ and ‘It’s a long way to Tipperary’. Readings from diaries and letters written at that time will also be given and archive film footage from the trenches will be shown.

  • First for poetry

    Flushed with success from his role in the School of Rock, Head of German Mr Depoix has now won a national poetry competition. Mr Depoix and students from Gordon’s had to learn a First World War poem by heart for the ‘Poetry By Heart’ competition. He earned first place for his rendition of ‘There Will Come Soft Rains’ by Sara Teasdale while student Darcy Watson was awarded ‘Highly Commended’. The competition aims to inspire those in schools and colleges to learn and recite poems by heart, showing that they inwardly understand and enjoy the poem.
