CCF Field Training Day - Sept 2015
On Tuesday 29th of September the Army Section of the CCF spent the day training with The Royal Engineers at Frimley. The morning activities comprised of a number of Command Tasks designed to test the Cadet's communication, leadership qualities and teamwork. The Cadets were divided into sections of 12 with each section rotating through a number of different tasks where members of the Section had to command and control the activities.
The afternoon training took place at Hawley Lake where the Cadets were given instruction on tying knots, lashings and construction of a raft. Each section was then given the equipment to construct a raft capable of carrying the section around the island on the lake.
Once the rafts had been constructed the teams challenge was to race around the island, with the first team to complete the circuit and dismantle the raft declared winners. The race was very eventful as due to a strong head wind none of the teams were able to round the island and some of the rafts fell apart with team member having to test their swimming ability in the freezing cold the water. The race proved to be very closely fought with the final result eventually being decided by how quickly the teams could dismantle their raft.
All the Cadets had a very enjoyable day out with our sponsor unit, The Royal Engineers.
Many thanks to Cpl Billy Potts (former pupil) and his team of Engineers for hosting our Cadets and providing an excellent day’s training.
